PUTRA MOSQUE

The Masjid Putra, or Putra Mosque was built in Malaysia’s new administrative capital, Putrajaya, an ecologically friendly “cyber-capital,” where all paperwork and red tape is planned to be electronic and where green- space and wetlands are abundant. The mosque itself “floats” on a man-made lake and is acoustically superb. The traditional design of the building incorporates Middle-Eastern and Egyptian styles as well as a natural ventilation system. The Putra Mosque was made out of “rosa-j” Malaysian granite. With the help of computers, intricate mosaics for the structure were designed and produced locally. The mosque and its square can accommodate up to 100 000 people. Thanks to Siow Leeong for the name and information, I was able to find more on this mosque.
